On December 8, five students from the Faculty of Education (Human Life Sciences Course) held a hands-on event titled ¡°Let¡¯s Make Original Lemon Cakes!¡± and sold lemon cakes at a machiya, Japan's traditional wooden townhouses, on Saijo Sake Brewery Street.
Based on the project theme, ¡°Bringing People, Sweets, and Smiles to Shiomachi,¡± the students exchanged ideas on how to help residents of Higashihiroshima City feel more familiar with lemon cakes and enjoy the process of making sweets. They planned and carried out an event where participants could create their own original lemon cakes by combining their preferred base cake, coating, and toppings.

Additionally, at an adjacent booth at the event venue, a selection of approximately 100 types of lemon cakes collected as part of this year's project was showcased. Among them were lemon cakes procured with the cooperation of Shimagocoro, Patisserie Mei, and Takaki Bakery, as well as the "Shima Shima Lemon Cake" created by the student group Shima Shima Lemon from this course, all of which were made available for purchase.

Student's Reflection
This year¡¯s project was divided into three groups, and our group, the ¡°Setoda Lemon Cake Collection,¡± planned and held an event for the first time. In the process of organizing the event, we were once again reminded of how much preparation is involved and identified many challenges. At the same time, we believe we also discovered new possibilities for what we are capable of achieving.
It made us really happy to hear participants say things like ¡°It was delicious!¡± or ¡°I had fun!¡± The sales at our booth also went very well, and we truly felt the gratitude and joy of having people buy the things we recommended.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported us, including the team at Hitomusubi and the companies that provided the cakes, as well as all others who helped us.
